Iron-glazed kiln-transformed sake cup by Okada Masaru - "A pale purple star mist flickers in the small cup that scoops up the evening darkness."
The appeal of the work
A small sake cup with a deep layer of black iron glaze, where blue-silver light and red-purple fire shine. The lower half is narrowed in a straight line and the upper half rises smoothly in a single step, and the inner wall, like a mortar, captures the aroma. The cup has a slightly rough, matte texture that feels smooth to the touch of the fingertips. When sake is poured into it, the darkness deepens, and the silver sand reflects the faint light, drawing a faint nebula.
The author's perspective
Mr. Okada Masaru believes in "capturing the landscape in the form of a vessel," and has condensed the midnight of Uji and the coal mines into this sake cup. The darkness of the iron glaze ... the silence of the night mountain, the silver-blue membrane ... the flickering starry mist, the pale pink streaks ... the glow of the charcoal fire. Every time you hold it in your palm and tilt your sake, the night view of the mountain village quietly changes in the cup.
Conclusion
A sip of sake is filled with starry mist, and the light red flames tell of its temperature. Please use this iron glaze sake cup as the night deepens, as a companion to your evening drink or as a serving cup for guests. The more you use it, the more the ingredients of the sake will soak into the glaze, and the layers of darkness and particles of light will become even deeper.
