Tenmoku glaze vase by Okada Masaru - The black lapis lazuli that captures the late-night starry sky accentuates the dignified shape of the flowers.

overview

This piece is a neat vase with a two-tiered body and is covered in Tenmoku glaze from the Song Dynasty Jian kilns. Fine silver sand glitters like stardust in the dark, and the pale pink outlines drawn by the reduction flame leave a faint aftertaste. The countless lights hidden in the tranquil black beautifully accentuate the flowers no matter the season, bringing a dignified atmosphere to your tokonoma alcove or entrance hall.

Mysterious scenery created by Tenmoku glaze

Twinkling Silver Sand
Iron crystals scattered on the glaze surface shine like stardust, and their appearance changes depending on the intensity of the light.

Pale pink fire
The reddish purple outlines created by temperature fluctuations during reduction firing add a sense of warmth to the darkness.

Deepening over time
As the piece is used, moisture and air will penetrate the glaze slightly, deepening the depth of the black color.

Masaru Okada's creative intent

Based on the concept of "capturing the landscape in the form of a vessel," Okada Masaru condensed the image of the stars twinkling in the night sky of Sumiyama and the nodes of a quiet bamboo forest into this piece. The deep black of the Tenmoku glaze represents the darkness of the night, the silver sand represents the light of the stars, and the nodes of the bamboo. The faint light hidden in the darkness makes you feel the passage of time and quietly highlights the vitality of the flowers.

Conclusion

With stars scattered across the quiet black lapis lazuli and the rhythm of the bamboo joints, this Tenmoku glaze vase creates a new scene every time you arrange flowers in it. Please use it for many years to come, along with seasonal floral materials, and enjoy the ever-deepening depth of the black and the sparkle of the silver sand.
