The "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Crane Neck Vase" is a vase that beautifully harmonizes the clear color of the blue and white porcelain with the gracefully elongated crane neck shape. "Crane neck" refers to a long, slender neck, and this piece combines this beautiful form with the three-dimensional effect of the chamfering, adding a modern beauty to a traditional vase. The cool glaze of the blue and white porcelain and the simple, refined lines of the crane neck bring elegance and tranquility to any space.
The beauty and appeal of blue-and-white porcelain
Blue-and-white porcelain is a type of white porcelain characterized by its pale blue-and-white color due to trace amounts of iron contained in the glaze. The transparent blue-and-white color has a refreshing feel reminiscent of a clear sky or a calm water surface, and its quiet elegance gives a sense of peace to the viewer. Blue-and-white porcelain works require a thick layer of glaze, making temperature control during firing extremely difficult and requiring advanced skills, but Mr. Ikura has taken on this difficult challenge and produced works of stunning perfection.
Delicate design using chamfering techniques
Another notable feature of this vase is the beautiful three-dimensional effect achieved through the beveling technique. Beveling is a technique of carving the surface of a vessel to create multiple faces, and Ikura-san's delicate carving technique enriches the expression of this piece. The elegant lines of the crane neck and the sharp shape of the beveling come together, allowing you to enjoy the different reflections and shadows of light depending on the viewing angle. In particular, when light hits it, the transparency of the glaze and the three-dimensionality of the beveling combine to create a beautiful scene that combines dignity and tranquility.
The elegance of the crane neck shape
The "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Crane Neck Vase," as its name suggests, is characterized by its elegant, slender shape resembling the neck of a crane. This crane neck shape has long been considered a symbol of beauty and elegance in the Japanese tea ceremony and flower arrangement. Ikura's vase is a modern interpretation of this traditional crane neck form, adding sharp chamfered lines that give it a unique presence. These slender, delicate lines, combined with the refreshing feel of the blue and white porcelain, bring a refined beauty to any space.
Unique aesthetics and techniques
In the world of blue-and-white porcelain, Tsukamoto has produced numerous works that beautifully combine tradition and innovation. This "Blue-and-white porcelain beveled crane-neck vase" is another piece that fully demonstrates his outstanding technique and keen aesthetic sense. His meticulous work in beveling the edges and his use of glazes that bring out the beautiful colors of the blue-and-white porcelain to the fullest are his unique characteristics. This piece also pays homage to Tsukamoto Kaiji and has the power to fill an entire space with refined beauty.
The "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Crane-Neck Vase by Ikura Kotaro" is a work that beautifully combines the transparency of the blue and white porcelain, the elegant lines of the crane-neck shape, and the delicate design achieved through the chamfering technique.
