The flickering of light, the lingering green of the green - Emerald green sake cup by Ogawa Bunsai VI (Kyo)

This "Emerald Green Sake Cup" by Ogawa Bunsai (Oki) VI is a quiet, poetic vessel woven with the flow of glaze and the transmission of light. The pale, clear jade-green glaze and the yellowish-brown kiln changes that appeared accidentally during firing intersect on the vessel's surface like sunlight filtering through the clouds and the surface of a mountain, creating a fantastical appearance as if it were a snapshot of a natural landscape.

This small bowl exquisitely captures the seasonal air, humidity, light and shadow, giving you the luxury of holding a "landscape" in the palm of your hand.

The Transparency of the Green Glaze: The Crystallization of Ogawa Bunsai's Color Aesthetics

Green is a color that is synonymous with Ogawa Bunsai. In this sake cup, it is expressed in a more delicate tone. The glaze covers the entire vessel like a film of water, and while it has a smooth texture and deep transparency, subtle shades are created by the firing process.

The subtle hints of light blue and white mixed in with the emerald green, and the ochre kiln changes that blend naturally into it, create a painterly color surface that gives it a poetic quality that goes beyond mere color.Amidst the soft and pale impression, there is a certain tense stillness, creating a sense of depth that resonates deep within the viewer.

Light and earth reflected in the palm of your hand

Although this sake cup is rather small, the rim gently widens, making it feel very comfortable in the hand. The base is finished in a clean white, enhancing the overall light impression of the vessel.

Particularly striking is the "fluctuation" of the boundaries created by the flow of the glaze. The light shining on the water's edge appears as swaying, rippling lines, like the reflection of the water's surface after a breeze has blown through. This is no coincidence, but rather a "natural beauty" derived from the artist's many years of research and sensibility.

The moment when the act of drinking intersects with the scenery

A sake cup is not just a sake cup. It is a vessel that creates a sense of resonance only when sake is poured into it, it touches your lips, and it is wrapped around your hands. With this green sake cup, the act of drinking becomes a moment of communion with the scenery.

When the clear light of the sake illuminates the inside of the vessel, a green world reminiscent of the bottom of the ocean unfolds, gently enveloping the soul. Time to pause in the midst of everyday life, time to quietly reflect on something. This vessel will gently accompany you as you do so.

Colors that reflect peace, shapes that express prayer

"Green is a symbol of my wish for peace," says Ogawa Bunsai. True to his words, this piece embodies harmony and serenity, without conflict or exaggeration. The elements of earth, glaze, and fire all blend together without conflict, and beauty emerges like the laws of nature. This has the power to lead the viewer's heart to serenity.

Experience the world reflected in a drop of green in the palm of your hand

This "Emerald Green Sake Cup" is a work that combines the color expression that Ogawa Bunsai has cultivated over many years, his deep respect for the earth, and his sincere gaze on the relationship between people and their vessels. It is a vessel that is endlessly gentle yet deep, and every time you use it you will encounter a new landscape - it is a vessel that harbors such a rich potential.

Please take it in your hands and let yourself be absorbed in the softly expanding world of green. There you will find a quiet light that gently illuminates your everyday life.
