Flickering light, lingering green aftertaste - Emerald green sake cup by the 6th Ogawa Bunsai (Kyo)

This "Emerald Green Sake Cup" by the 6th Ogawa Bunsai (Oki) is a quiet, poetic vessel woven with the flow of glaze and the penetration of light. The pale, clear jade-colored glaze and the yellowish brown kiln changes that appeared by chance during firing intersect with the vessel's surface like sunlight shining through the clouds and the surface of a mountain, creating a fantastical expression that seems as if it were a slice of natural scenery.

The seasonal air, humidity, light and shadow are exquisitely captured in this small bowl, giving you the luxury of holding a landscape in the palm of your hand.

The Transparency of Green Glaze - The Crystallization of Ogawa Bunsai's Color Aesthetics

"Green" is a color that is synonymous with Ogawa Bunsai. In this sake cup, it is expressed in a more delicate tone. The glaze covers the entire vessel like a film of water, and while it has a smooth texture and deep transparency, subtle shades are created by firing.

The subtle hints of light blue and white mixed into the emerald green, and the ochre kiln changes that blend naturally into it, create a painterly color surface, giving it a poetic quality that goes beyond mere color. There is a certain tense silence within the soft, pale impression, and it gives a sense of depth that resonates deep within the viewer's soul.

A space of light and earth reflected in the palm of my hand

Although this sake cup is rather small, the rim gently widens and it fits comfortably in the hand. The base is finished in a clean white color, enhancing the light impression of the entire vessel.

Particularly impressive is the "wavering" of the boundaries created by the flow of the glaze. The light shining into the water's edge appears as wavy, swaying lines, as if reflecting the surface of the water after a breeze has blown through. This is not a coincidence, but rather an "inevitable beauty" derived from the artist's many years of research and sensibility.

The moment when the act of drinking intersects with the scenery

A sake cup is not just a sake cup. It is a vessel that creates a "resonance" only when you pour sake into it, touch it to your lips, and wrap it around your hand. With this green sake cup, the act of drinking is itself a moment of interaction with the scenery.

When the clear light of the sake illuminates the inside of the vessel, a green world reminiscent of the bottom of the water unfolds, gently enveloping the soul. Time to suddenly stop and think about something in your daily life. This vessel will gently accompany you and help you with that.

Colors that reflect peace, shapes that convey prayer

"Green is a symbol of my wish for peace," says Bunsai Ogawa. True to his words, this piece embodies harmony and serenity without conflict or exaggeration. The elements of earth, glaze, and fire blend together without conflict, and beauty emerges as if in accordance with the laws of nature. It has the power to lead the viewer's heart to "tranquility."

Experience the world reflected in a drop of green in the palm of your hand

This "Emerald Green Sake Cup" is a work that combines the color expression that Bunsai Ogawa has cultivated over many years, his deep respect for the earth, and his sincere gaze on the relationship between people and vessels. It is a vessel that is gentle and yet deep, and every time you use it you can encounter a new landscape - it is a vessel that has such a rich margin.

Please take it in your hands and let yourself be immersed in the soft, green world that spreads out before you. There resides a quiet light that gently illuminates your daily life.
