White Tanba water pitcher - Masamoto Naosaku

Height 21.0 cm x diameter 16.0 cm

1. The elegant atmosphere unique to Shiratanba

The soft milky white color of the white Tanba glaze has a moist luster that reflects the pale moonlight. The crazing that runs across the entire surface of the vessel is a natural pattern that appears after firing, and the delicate mesh spreads out like a rich landscape. As time passes, the tea stains soak in and create mysterious brushstrokes on the milky white background, which can be said to be the true joy of a vessel that "grows."

2. Functional beauty created by two types of lids

This piece comes with two lids: a white Tanba ceramic lid and a lacquered lid with a tamenuri finish.

  • The ceramic lid is finished with the same white glaze as the body, creating a unified and neat appearance. On cool summer days, the white surface evokes the calmness of the water's surface, helping to clear the minds of guests.

  • The deep lacquer lid is a great accent color, and is a great supporting actor that adds elegance to the hearth season and nighttime tea ceremonies. The warmth of the wood and the luster of the lacquer further enhance the soft texture of the white Tanba wood.

The great appeal of these dishes is that by using them in different ways, they can fully express the tastes of the seasons and the host's hospitality.

3. The pride and modernity of "Naosaku Kiln"

Masamoto Naosaku's Naosaku Kiln is one of the oldest kilns that continues the lineage of the ancient Tamba kilns. He has continued to create pottery that is simple yet elegant, skillfully manipulating the flames of red pine firewood and the reducing environment of the climbing kiln. In this piece, the straight body and slightly taut shoulders give off a modern, smart look, while the soft wheel marks remaining on the bottom ensure that you do not forget the earthenware. This pitcher embodies the current Tamba ware, where tradition and innovation resonate together.

4. Tolerance that supports the tea ceremony

The imposing size of 21 cm in height allows it to hold a sufficient amount of water for both thin and thick tea, providing a relaxed flow to the tea ceremony. The cleanliness of the white glaze also has the effect of easing the tense atmosphere of the first session and relaxing the guests. It harmonizes with any of the floor decorations - the pale pink of cherry blossoms in spring, the cool green of maples in summer, the deep red of maples in autumn, and the snowy scenery in winter - and brings the entire tea room together with elegance.

5. To ensure long-lasting use

After use, wash gently with lukewarm water, wipe off any water with a soft cloth and dry thoroughly.

Avoid soaking for long periods of time or using excessive amounts of detergent to prevent unnecessary moisture and oil from getting into the cracks.

The tea stains and subtle color shading that appear over time can be enjoyed as testament to the memories of tea ceremonies.

The pure white of the Shirotanba tea and the unique scenery created by the crazing - this water pitcher by Masamoto Naosaku is suitable for a wide range of occasions, from daily practice to formal tea ceremonies, and will add a quiet dignity to your tea room. Please use the two different lids to create this "wabi ware" that changes its appearance with the seasons.
