White Glazed Ridge Silver Vase (Hakuyu Ryosen Ginsai Hanaire) by Okada Masaru - "A streak of silver traces the moonlight on the light snow-white porcelain. The ridge of the wind gently catches the flower."
The theme of the work
Standing before your eyes is a neat form reminiscent of a straight up cone. The single ridge running across the body of the piece shines faintly with silver, as if it were replicating the traces of the wind caressing the mountain surface on a moonlit night. The milky white glaze surface fluctuates subtly from ivory to pale snow depending on the light source, and the silver trace breathes quietly.
The author's perspective
Okada Masaru studied at Gojozaka in Kiyomizu, Kyoto, and captures the nature of Sumiyama in Uji in his works.
In this vase, the white glaze expresses "tranquility" and "space," the curved ridges express "the flow of the wind," and the silver glaze expresses "the presence of the moon." When you get close to the vase, the silver along the ridges takes on a slight warmth and emits a light reminiscent of the veil of night.
Conclusion
The white of light snow, the silver of moonlight, a streak of wind - the white glaze silver-colored vase creates a tranquil landscape every time it receives a flower. Gently insert a branch of the season and enjoy the changing expression of the silver color with the shifting of the light.
