White Glazed Ridgeline Silver Flower Vase (Hakuyu Ryosen Ginsai Hanare) by Okada Masaru - "A streak of silver traces the moonlight on the pale snow-like white porcelain. The ridgeline of the wind gently catches the flowers."
The theme of the work
Standing before your eyes is a neat form reminiscent of a straight, upright cone. The single ridge running across the body of the piece glows softly with silver, almost as if it were replicating the traces of wind caressing the mountainside on a moonlit night. The milky white glaze surface fluctuates subtly from ivory to pale snow depending on the light source, and the silver trace breathes quietly.
The author's perspective
Okada Masaru studied at Kiyomizu-Gojozaka in Kyoto and captures the natural beauty of Sumiyama in Uji in his works.
In this vase, the white glaze expresses "tranquility" and "emptiness," the curves of the ridges express "flowing wind," and the silver glaze expresses "the presence of the moon." When you approach the vessel, the silver along the ridges takes on a subtle warmth and takes on a light reminiscent of the veil of night.
Conclusion
The white of light snow, the silver of moonlight, a ray of wind— the white-glazed silver-colored ridgeline vase creates a tranquil landscape every time it receives a flower. Gently insert a branch of the season and enjoy the changing appearance of the silver color as the light changes.
