Profile of Motokazu Ichino

He is a full member of the Japan Crafts Council and a professor at the Department of Plastic Expression at Kobe Design University. Born on March 8, 1956, he graduated from Kwansei Gakuin University in 1978 and has received numerous awards. In 1991, he received the Takamatsunomiya Memorial Award at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and his winning work was purchased by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He has also exhibited and received acclaim at many exhibitions both in Japan and abroad.

Biography

Born in Tachikui, Hyogo Prefecture in 1956

Graduated from Mita Gakuen in 1974

1978 Graduated from Kwansei Gakuin University. Started making pottery under his father, Shozo.

1991: Winner of the Takamatsunomiya Memorial Award at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition ( the winning work was purchased by the Agency for Cultural Affairs)

1994 Hyogo Prefecture Crafts Artists Association Grand Prize

1995 Hyogo Prefecture Art Encouragement Award

2001: Youngest participant selected for the "Beauty of Craftsmanship" exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of Japanese traditional crafts

2007 Grand Prize at the "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition" at the Tanabe Museum of Art

2011 Grand Prize at the "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition" at the Tanabe Museum of Art

In 2013, he was sent to Aalto University in Finland as an overseas research fellow at Kobe Design University.
