The "Blue-and-white Porcelain Chamfered Vase" by Ikura Kotaro is an appealing piece that combines the transparency of the blue-and-white porcelain with the refined form of the chamfered edges. The three-dimensional chamfering on the smooth white porcelain surface gives the entire vase a sharp and powerful impression, while the soft blue-and-white porcelain color brings a sense of serenity to the piece. This vase by Ikura's hand is a beautifully balanced piece that combines a modern sensibility with traditional techniques.

The appeal and difficulty of blue-and-white porcelain

Blue-and-white porcelain is a type of white porcelain characterized by the blue-and-white color that develops during firing due to trace amounts of iron contained in the glaze. This translucent blue-and-white color evokes a sense of calm and freshness, like the surface of a still lake, and is known in the world of ceramics as a particularly noble and elegant hue. The beauty of blue-and-white porcelain depends on the thickness and transparency of the glaze, so there is a high risk of it cracking during firing, requiring skilled techniques, but this difficult challenge has been overcome brilliantly.

Sharp beauty created by chamfering

The distinctive feature of the "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Vase" is the three-dimensional, sharp beauty of its form, achieved through the chamfering technique. Chamfering is a technique that emphasizes the three-dimensional effect by carving the surface of the vessel and creating multiple faces. In this vase, the transparent blue and white porcelain glaze creates unique shadows through the chamfering, and the reflection of light creates a variety of expressions. In particular, the uniform chamfering applied to the entire body of the vase allows you to enjoy different beauty depending on the angle from which you view it.

Overwhelming presence

This piece exudes a simple yet overwhelming presence thanks to the quiet elegance unique to pale blue porcelain and the sharp beveled edges. The beveled form, carefully carved by Ikura Kotaro, feels comfortable in the hand, and is practical yet artistic. As a result, this vase is not just a storage container, but can fill an entire space with a sophisticated atmosphere simply by being displayed, making it a true art piece.

Respect for Mr. Kaiji Tsukamoto

Kotaro Ikura has a deep respect for the master Kaiji Tsukamoto, and his influence is strongly reflected in this piece. The beauty of Tsukamoto's work, which can completely transform the atmosphere of any setting, is also present in this "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Vase," captivating those who see it. This piece, which combines a simple and refined design with the pure, transparent glaze of the blue and white porcelain, is the culmination of artistic exploration.

The "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Vase by Ikura Kotaro" is a work that harmonizes the beautiful blue and white porcelain glaze with the sharp shape achieved by the chamfering technique. This vase, which beautifully combines traditional blue and white porcelain techniques with a modern design sensibility, has a quiet yet strong presence, making it a masterpiece that will breathe new life into any space.
