Introduction

The "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Vase" by Kotaro Ikura is an attractive piece with the transparency of the blue and white porcelain and the refined form of the chamfered edges. The three-dimensional chamfered edges engraved on the smooth white porcelain surface give the entire vase a sharp and powerful impression, while the soft color of the blue and white porcelain brings a sense of calm to the piece. This vase by Ikura is a beautifully balanced piece based on traditional techniques but also incorporating modern sensibilities.

The appeal and difficulty of blue-and-white porcelain

Blue-and-white porcelain is a type of white porcelain that is characterized by a blue-and-white color due to trace amounts of iron contained in the glaze during firing. Its transparent blue-and-white color gives a sense of calm and freshness, like the surface of a quiet lake, and is known in the world of pottery as a particularly noble and elegant color. Because the beauty of blue-and-white porcelain depends on the thickness and transparency of the glaze, there is a high risk of it cracking during firing, requiring skilled techniques, but this difficult challenge has been brilliantly overcome.

Sharp beauty created by chamfering

The distinctive feature of the "Blue and White Porcelain Chamfered Vase" is the beauty of its three-dimensional, sharp form, achieved by the chamfering technique. Chamfering is a technique that emphasizes the three-dimensional effect by scraping the surface of the vessel and creating multiple faces. In this vase, the transparent glaze of the blue and white porcelain creates unique shadows through the chamfering, and the reflection of light gives it a variety of different expressions. In particular, because the entire body of the vase is chamfered in a uniform manner, you can enjoy the different beauty depending on the angle from which you view it.

Overwhelming presence

This piece exudes a simple yet overwhelming presence, with the quiet elegance unique to blue-and-white porcelain and the sharp chamfered edges. The chamfered form, carefully carved by Kotaro Ikura, feels comfortable in the hand, and is practical yet artistic. As a result, this vase is not just a storage container, but a true art piece that can fill an entire space with a sophisticated atmosphere simply by displaying it.

Respect to Mr. Kaiji Tsukamoto

Kotaro Ikura has a deep respect for the master Kaiji Tsukamoto, and his influence is strongly reflected in this piece. The beauty of Tsukamoto's work, which can completely transform the atmosphere of any room, is also present in this "Blue and White Porcelain Beveled Vase," which never fails to draw the viewer in. This piece, which combines a simple and elegant design with the pure, transparent glaze of blue and white porcelain, is the culmination of artistic exploration.

"Blue and white porcelain chamfered vase by Kotaro Ikura" is a work that harmonizes the beautiful blue and white porcelain glaze with a sharp shape created by the chamfering technique. This vase, which is a perfect fusion of traditional blue and white porcelain techniques and a modern design sensibility, has a quiet yet strong presence and is a masterpiece that will breathe new life into any space.
