Tanba kiln-fired flower vase - Naotake Masamoto

Height 25 cm x diameter 10 cm

1. A unique scene created by flames

This piece was fired in a climbing kiln for more than three days and nights, and is a masterpiece of **yakishime**, colored without glaze using only wood ash. The deep green glass rising from the purple-brown base, and the silvery white crystals born from the ash that has fallen like snow - these "yakishime" scenes are a natural calligraphy woven by chance between fire, ash, and earth, and no two pieces have the same appearance.

2. Tanba's rough soil and the skills of Masamoto Naosaku

The clay used for the vase is rough and iron-rich soil taken from the Tanba Mountains, and the granite grains are left intact to emphasize the rustic appeal. After shaping the vase on a potter's wheel, Masamoto Naosaku gently shook the lines of the body with his fingers, creating a design that would highlight the shadows of the earth when light hits it. By slightly bending the rim inward, the flowers placed inside are naturally stabilized, and the vase has a functional beauty that gently suppresses evaporation from the water's edge.

3. The capacity to bring out the best in flowers

Branches : If you insert strong branches such as camellia, camellia or plum blossoms, the vertical lines of the trunk will create a dignified and elegant look.

Grass : When combined with thin-lined flowers such as moss plum, daffodil, and begonia, the soft color tones of the gray cover accentuate their freshness.

Single flower : The narrow aperture design allows you to place just one wild flower in it, creating a picturesque space that adds a touch of wabi-shiki to your tokonoma alcove.

4. A flavor that deepens with time

The more a Yakishime vase is used, the more it absorbs moisture and air, and the surface becomes moist and supple. The gray surface gradually gains luster, and the purple-brown base shows subtle color changes according to the user's environment. Please experience the joy of living with your vase over the years.

5. Care instructions

Before use, rinse lightly with water to moisten the surface of the vessel and improve the lifespan of the flowers.

After use, rinse the inside with a soft brush, wipe off any water with a dry cloth and dry in the shade.

Please avoid using detergents as they may interfere with the natural breathing of the ash skin.

This piece combines the kiln changes accidentally created by the flames of a wood-fired kiln with the sure-handed technique of Masamoto Naosaku, and whenever you arrange flowers in it, it brings out a quiet elegance in the space and enhances the colors of the seasons. Please enjoy the natural beauty and wabi scenery that is unique to Tamba ware as you nurture it for many years to come.
