Introduction

The "Blue and White Porcelain Beveled Tea Bowl" by ceramic artist Kotaro Ikura is a matcha bowl with an overwhelming presence, characterized by blue and white porcelain that has been repeatedly painted like mud. Its unique texture and sharp shape are in perfect harmony, bringing a new expression of beauty to the world of tea ceremony.

The dignity and dignity of blue-and-white porcelain

The blue-and-white porcelain of the "Blue and White Beveled Tea Bowl" is carefully layered like mud, giving it a deep, heavy feel. However, the finished product is surprisingly elegant, and rather than being simply rough, it has a refined beauty as pottery. This balance of heavy feel and delicacy is the unique charm of Kotaro Ikura's work.

Chamfered edges for a three-dimensional, sharp shape

One of the most distinctive features of this tea bowl is its three-dimensional, sharp shape, achieved by the beveling technique. The geometric faces overlap in a complex way, creating a unique three-dimensional effect. This shape, which highlights the sharp edges, gives the entire bowl an overwhelming presence and leaves a strong impression on the viewer. Furthermore, when you pick it up, the three-dimensional lines feel comfortable on your fingers, and you will discover something new every time you use it.

The harmony of color and texture of blue-and-white porcelain

The beauty of this tea bowl is enhanced by the smooth texture of the pale blue porcelain and the natural gradation of the muddy layered glaze. The contrast between the thin, transparent pale blue porcelain and the thick, muddy layers creates a rich expression both visually and tactilely. The subdued color of the pale blue porcelain gracefully colors the quiet time of the tea ceremony.

Overwhelming presence

The "Blue and White Chamfered Porcelain Tea Bowl" has a presence that overwhelms the viewer. Its sharp chamfered shape, combined with the thick layers of blue and white porcelain, give it a sense of strength and elegance. And yet it is also highly versatile as a tea bowl, and its beauty is fully displayed at tea ceremonies.
